Birth Services

At Bloom Birth, we believe in giving you the best options for prenatal and postpartum care without any of the pressure. When you choose to work with me, one of the first things you will notice is that I put an emphasis on our relationship. This is one of the keys to a peaceful home birth. To feel completely comfortable and supported in your birth, you need to have full confidence, trust, and respect for everyone you choose to have present. We aren’t going to accomplish that with 5-10 minute appointments, so our appointments will be 1-2 hours long.

During the prenatal period you can expect to learn more about childbirth and how to prepare for your labor and birth at each appointment. My goal is always to share as much information with you as possible during our time together. When you are informed and confident you are able to make empowered decisions about your birth.

Here’s what you can expect when you choose us for your pregnancy and home birth journey:

  • Prenatal and Postpartum Care: Our appointments usually last 1 to 2 hours,
    • During the First and Second Trimesters, your appointments are held monthly at the BloomBirth Office.
    • As you enter the third trimester, visits become biweekly, and then weekly starting at the 38th week until birth.
    • Once labor starts you decide when you are ready for support. You never have to worry about calling too soon. If you feel like you are ready for your team, then it’s time for you to have your team. The same goes for after birth. I will stay with you until you are settled and feeling confident in your ability to feed your baby and rest.
    • Postpartum appointments are typically scheduled at 24 hours, 72 hours, 1 week, 2 weeks and 6 weeks, but we can adapt to your needs.
    • Your 36 week, 1 day, 3 day, and 1 week postpartum appointments are in home, all other appointments are at the BloomBirth Office in Canton.
  • Birth Kit: Everything you need for your birth and immediately postpartum is included in your care
  • Diagnostic Anatomy Scan: This scan is performed by a qualified maternal-fetal medicine technician and interpreted by a radiologist, ideally scheduled around the 21st week of pregnancy.
  • Pelvic Floor Therapy: This important tool is the standard of care in many European countries but is often overlooked in the U.S. It can help treat pelvic floor dysfunction and improve your birthing experience. Your package includes an initial evaluation with a pelvic floor therapist, with ongoing care recommended but not included.
  • Lactation Support: Brittney, our Bloom Birth Lactation Counselor, will provide one in-home appointment at no extra cost, along with two discounted sessions. Any lactation courses offered during your third trimester are also included. Additionally, lactation support groups may be available in the Akron area; feel free to ask about them.

This 6-week appointment does not mean goodbye. We have built a relationship, and I am your midwife and friend for the rest of your motherhood journey. The support continues Thursdays at 6pm at the Bloom Birth Office Thursdays with specialty groups throughout the month, groups are women only and free to the public.

Monday Mom & Baby Group 9am -12pm This event is for moms and kiddos under 2. If you have an older child that can entertain themselves calmly that is definitely ok. The idea is for the moms in the season of having Littles to not worry about a crazy 5 year old (like mine) squashing their tiny ones while they play. The is a super casual group that is mom led and come and go as you please. Changing station and drinks available. We would love to see lots of moms hanging out at BloomBirth each week!

1st Thursday The Original Birth Discussion with Kristen 6pm
